Medical Gas Safety Training

This training course delivered at your location through a blend of classroom & practical training. Covering the safe use, handling, storage & transportation of medical oxygen & other medical gases, supporting the training obligations of NHS HTM 02-01 Part B. .

Who is the course for:

The safe use and handling of medical gases, chiefly oxygen, nitrous oxide and nitrous oxide & oxygen (Entonox) used in medical applications.
The course covers the safety training requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act and BCGA Codes of Practice. Highlighting the specific hazards associated with these commonly used gases such as oxygen enrichment/deficiency, flammability, reactions with oils & greases, regulator changing etc.


This training is nationally accredited by EAL & provides 3 CPD learning hours.

Classroom Session 2 hours

  • Fire hazards of Oxygen enrichment
  • Gas properties & hazards
  • Identification & cylinder preparation
  • Regulator fitting
  • Leak testing
  • Regulator removal
  • Faulty cylinder procedure
  • Manual handling techniques
  • Connecting cylinders & manual handling

Practical Session allow approximately 1 hour

Learners will be given the opportunity to undertake:

  • Before-use checks including leak checking
  • Regulator fitting
  • Manual handing of cylinders
