Thorough examination and Testing of Equipment during Covid-19

The HSE have issued advice to companies who have plant & equipment which requires Thorough Examination and Testing (TE&T).

Where a company has a duty to carry out TE&T, the HSE’s approach during the Covid-19 outbreak will be pragmatic.

If it is not possible for a scheduled examination or inspection to take place, you should adopt a risk-based process to ascertain whether the equipment is safe to use.

Regarding the operators of single cylinders, mobile oxy-fuel and cryogenic dewar operations, risk can minimised. Ensure equipment is subjected to thorough pre-use checks. Staff who have undertaken PGS training should know how to implement these checks.

Guidance on pre-use checks can be found in the Gas Safety handbook provided with training. The Gas Safety handbook is also available to download from our website.

If you or your staff require additional instruction please get in touch and we will do our best to help.

Correct pre-use checks should ensure equipment is in good working order there are no leaks in the system and it is safe to use.

If you have any questions about pre-use checks, require further guidance or access to checklists, please visit the PGS Knowledge Base. Here you will be able to request “Know Your” posters, Site Safety Audit tools and other information.
We have a number of e-Learning modules available if training is required.

The overarching message from the HSE is that the obligation remains – ensure equipment is safe to use.
