This course covers the safe use, handling, storage and transportation of medical oxygen and other medical gases.
It highlights specific hazards such as oxygen enrichment/deficiency, flammability, reactions with oils and greases.
Participants learn how to conduct pre-use checks before commencing connection to the medical device. They also gain an understanding of potential hazards, explore strategies for identifying and mitigating risks, and share best practice and ideas.
This course is suitable for nurses, porters and ancillary staff who use or come into contact with medical oxygen during the course of their work.

These gases are colorless, odorless, and tasteless, making their presence undetectable. They can displace oxygen, creating an asphyxiant atmosphere.
The most common inert gases include argon, nitrogen, helium, and carbon dioxide.
Oxygen significantly supports combustion. Atmospheres that contain more than 23% oxygen are classified as enriched and poses an increased fire risk.
In an oxygen enriched atmosphere, even fire resistant materials, can ignite and burn intensely.
Flammable gases burn in air within certain concentration limits.
The range of these limits is called the flammability range.
These gases include acetylene, propane, butane, and hydrogen.
