Installation & Maintenance of Compressed Gases Systems

This qualification gives delegates the information required to complete an appropriate and safe installation of a compressed gas system, in accordance with Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) and industry codes of practice such as BCGA CP4.

Installation & Maintenance

The objective of this qualification is to enable the delegate to demonstrate that they have the technical knowledge and practical skills required to complete an appropriate and safe installation of a compressed gases system. This shall be in accordance with Pressure Systems Regulations and Industry codes of practice.

This is a Level 3 Qualification in The Installation & Maintenance of Compressed Gases Systems.

Suitable for individuals who require a qualification in the Installation & Maintenance of Compressed Gases Systems. Successful delegates can use this qualification as supporting evidence for their ‘Medical Equipment Installation & Maintenance Engineer’ gold card.

Level 3 Award – The Installation & Maintenance of Compressed gases Supply Systems – Practical Session.

All learners are required to complete the following practical activities in bays, which simulate real pressure systems.

Following detailed instruction, learners must demonstrate that they can successfully complete key tasks. Learners will be given two opportunities to complete these critical tasks.

  • Installation Practice  –  Correctly install compressed gas supply components and fittings. To include the identification of faulty, non-compliant or incorrectly specified equipment.
  • Pressure Testing  –  Perform a pressure test using a prescribed pressure test checklist.
  • Commissioning  –  Demonstrate the ability to correctly purge the system and safely commission the installation up to the outlet.
  • End User Training  –  Demonstrate safe use of the system to a potential customer.
  • Maintenance  –  Identify and replace equipment as per manufacturer’s recommendations or following a written scheme.
  • Fault Finding  –  Fault find whilst reviewing an existing assembled system.
  • Administration  –  Explain the information required to be obtained at the ‘customer site visit’ stage.
  • Delegates must have  industry relevant experience.
  • They must have a good understanding of fixed gas systems and have experience of installation practice.

All successful learners will receive:

  • EAL Level 3 Award – Installation and Maintenance of Compressed Gases Supply Systems
  • EAL Level 3 Award – Applied Compressed Gases Safety
  • PGS Certificate of Achievement
  • PGS Gas Safety Passport Card

PGS Certification is valid for 3 years after which refresher instruction is recommended

Be Proactive, Be Safe

Attendance provides the information required to understand the specific hazards associated with compressed gases such as Nitrogen, CO2, Hydrogen and Argon and other gases used in Laboratory or Industrial applications, resulting in an assured workforce and a safer workplace.

Inert Gases

These gases are colorless, odorless, and tasteless, making their presence undetectable. They can displace oxygen, creating an asphyxiant atmosphere.

The most common inert gases include argon, nitrogen, helium, and carbon dioxide.

Oxidising Gases

Oxygen significantly supports combustion. Atmospheres that contain more than 23% oxygen are classified as enriched and poses an increased fire risk.

In an oxygen enriched atmosphere, even fire resistant materials, can ignite and burn intensely.

Flammable Gases

Flammable gases burn in air within certain concentration limits.

The range of these limits is called the flammability range.

These gases include acetylene, propane, butane, and hydrogen.

This course assists in ensuring your organisation complies with obligations to train all staff exposed to risk.
